Richard Smith

ENNIS, TEXAS - Richard Derwin Smith, 87, of Ennis, TX, passed away, Sunday, Aug. 23, 2015 at his home. Funeral services will be at 2:00 pm Saturday, Aug. 29, 2015 at Southmont Baptist Church, 2801 Pennsylvania Dr. Denton, TX. Burial will follow at Spires Cemetery south of Damascus, AR, at 2:00 pm on the August 31. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Memorials may be made to the Texas Southern Gospel School of Music, c/o Paul Hollingsworth, 1515 Hackberry, Clifton, TX 76634.

Saving the past from extremists

Several years ago I was privileged enough to work on a project for the United Nations Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice. My team was asked to address some of the issues related to international trafficking of stolen art and antiquities. While this might sound pretty dry to the uninitiated, it quickly turned into an adventure involving Australian aboriginal tapestries, decapitated Javanese Buddha heads and French Impressionist paintings.

John Rutherford

SHERIDAN - John Edward “Ed” Rutherford of Sheridan, Ark. was born December 1, 1918 in Sheridan, Ark., the son of the late George Delk and Mary Etta Stuckey Rutherford. He was an active member of Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church in Sheridan, was a member and Past Master of Jacob Brump 160 Masonic Lodge in Pine Bluff, Arkansas, member and Past Patron of Union Chapter #40 and Sheridan Chapter #212 Order of the Eastern Star. He served his country in Europe in the Army Air Corp having fought in World War II.

Robert Gray

Robert (Bob) Gordon Gray passed away on Friday night, August 7, 2015, in his home with his loving family and HOSPICE ANGELS registered nurses of Pine Bluff, AR, Susan Padgett and Lisa Woolley, who provided loving, attentive comfort care that exceeded above and beyond expectations, at his side. The Gray/Millenbaugh family rejoices in the amazing Christian life Robert (Bob) Gray was privileged to live. We feel very honored, privileged, blessed and grateful to have been loved by this wonderful Christian man and cherish all of the amazing lives he loved that we know and ones we do not know. He was a native of Donaldson (Hot Spring county), Arkansas. He was the son of the late Carl Goza (mother) and A.J. Gray (father).

Joe Nicholson

Mr. Joe Nicholson, 77, of Pine Bluff passed Saturday, August 01, 2015. Services will be Wednesday, August 12, 2015 at Brown Funeral Home Chapel at 11:00 a.m. by Rev. Gregory Lee. Burial will be in Forrest Lawn Cemetery.

Bobby Moritz

DEWITT - Bobby Lynn Moritz, age 76, died August 8, 2015. He was born July 19, 1939 at Slovak, AR to Edgar August and Mary Opal Powell Moritz. He farmed for over 30 years then became a truck driver. He was a member of First Assembly of God Church. He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Eddie Shawn Moritz.
