WHITE HALL — Oscar H. Hicks, Sr. 86, a resident of White Hall, died Thursday, November 7, 2013, at Jefferson Regional Medical Center.
Born May 19, 1927, in Winchester, Ark., he was a son of Clarence H. Hicks, Sr. and Edna Boyd Hicks.
Mr. Hicks was reared and received his early education in Kelso. He was a 1945 graduate of Kelso High School. He attended the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville, graduating in 1952 with a Bachelors Degree. Oscar Hicks, Sr. married Frances Minchew on January 24, 1948, in Greenville, Miss. He was a United States Navy veteran of World War ll. Mr. Hicks moved to Pine Bluff in 1952. Mr. Hicks worked as a carpenter at the Pine Bluff Arsenal. He was a member of Olive Branch Missionary Baptist Church.
Mr. Hicks was prexceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Edna Hicks, and Ida Mae Brown; one half- brother, T. L. Fortenberry.
Survivors include his wife of 65 years Frances Hicks of White Hall; one son, Oscar H. Hicks, Jr. of Watson Chapel; two grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; one brother, Clarence Hicks of Hot Springs; one half-sister, JoAnn Owens of McGehee and loving Caregiver, Lisa Budd.
A private memorial service will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, November 9, 2013, in the Chapel of Ralph Robinson & Son Funeral Directors with Dr. Roger Stewart officiating.
