Louis Coins

SHERRILL — Louis M. Coins, 85, of Sherrill, Ark., passed away Wednesday, March 19, 2014, at Jefferson Regional Medical Center.

Born December 23, 1928, in Phillips County, Arkansas, he was a son of the late John Henry Coins and Mary Lou Storey Coins. He was reared and received his education in Phillips County.

Mr. Coins enlisted in the United States Army in 1948, serving as a Private First Class during World War II and the Korean War. He received an honorable discharged in 1952.

After returning from the military, he worked in the Motor Pool at the Pine Bluff Arsenal until 1957. Mr. Coins was an over the road truck driver, worked for Coca-Cola Company and was employed with Jefferson Supply Company. Later, he returned to the Pine Bluff Arsenal as a Security Officer for thirty-three years, retiring in 1985.

In February of 1963, he married Aileen Ruth Keith. They spent forty-seven years together until her death in 2010. Mr. Coins enjoyed being outdoors, working in his yard, hunting and fishing. He and his wife spent many years enjoying traveling in their motor home and camping.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; one step-son, Benny Valentine and a brother, Frank Coins.

Survivors include his son, Gerry Louis Coins, and wife, Kristian, grandson, Robert Austin Coins, all of Pine Bluff and step-granddaughter, Katlyn Trammell, of Sheridan; his daughter, Patricia Ann Holland and husband, Bucky, grandchildren, Terry and Tina, all of West Helena; his step-daughters, Patricia Valentine, of Little Rock and Phyllis Nutt, and husband, Sandy, of Hot Springs; several other step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren, along with a host of extended family and friends.

Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 25, 2014 in the Chapel of Ralph Robinson & Son with Reverend Donnie Manning officiating. Burial will follow in Roselawn Cemetery.
