STAR CITY — John Lafayette Moore, Sr., aged 93 years, departed this life on May 31, 2014 in Star City, Arkansas. He was born on November 4, 1920 in Tyro to Oscar “Fate” Lafayette Moore and Nettie Carter Moore.
John was a long time resident of Dumas, Arkansas, and a member of the First Baptist Church of Dumas. He was a professional contractor and enjoyed building homes alongside his sons, Johnny and Carter Moore. This love of building later developed into John L. Moore and Sons Contractors. John proudly served in the U.S. Navy during WWII as a chief water tender and Chief Petty Officer.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Nettie and Fate Moore, two sons, Elbert Curtis Moore and John Lafayette “Johnny” Moore, and one sister, Roxie Moore Selman.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 68 years, Ardeneal Carter Moore, one son, William “Carter” Moore (Janet), one daughter, Tina Moore Byrd (David), and a daughter in law, Carolyn Tedder Moore. He is also survived by seven grandchildren, and 16 great grandchildren.
The pallbearers are his grandsons: Brian Christopher Moore, Matthew Lee Coleman, William Curtis Moore, Jonathan Claude Byrd, and Benjamin “Quinn” Karr.
Visitation will be held on Monday, June 2 from 2-3:30p.m., at the home of John Moore prior to graveside services.
Graveside services will be Monday, June 2 at 4:00 p.m. at Walnut Lake Cemetery.
Donations in memory of Mr. John Moore may be made to the First Baptist Church of Dumas.
