Mrs. Delores W. Nolen, age 88, of Pine Bluff, passed away Sunday, January 5, 2014. She was born September 25, 1925 at Little Rock, Ark., daughter of the late Charles and Dolenia Woodruff.
She received her education at A.M.&N College and Tuskegee Institute. She taught school in the Watson Chapel District for more than 40 years as a math teacher, assistant and advisor. She was retired, but still tutored high school and college students in math and music.
She was a faithful and multi-talented member of the New Jerusalem Baptist Church for 76 years, and served with distinction her musical ability as director, and pianist-organist.
She was a member of the Jefferson County Retired Teachers, City-Wide Mission, and a charter member of the Cosmopolitan Choir. She was involved in many civic and professional organizations.
She was married to the late Rev. John H. Nolen in 1948. She is survived by two sons, Wayne Russell Nolen of The Colony, Texas and Darryl Clyde Nolen of Las Vegas, Nev.; one daughter, Lynda Kay (Donald) Hatton of Houston, Texas; one sister, Juanita T. Harris of Pine Bluff, Ark., and one brother, Turner (Cloteal) Tooke, Jr. of Venice, Calif.; six grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, cousins, nieces, and a host of friends.
Funeral Service will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday, January 11, 2014 at St. Paul MBC. The Eulogist will be Rev. Marvin E. Wiley, pastor of the Rock of Ages Baptist Church, Maywood, Ill. Burial will be at Forrest Lawn Memorial Garden by Brown Funeral Home of Pine Bluff.
The body will lie in repose Saturday at St. Paul from 9:45 a.m. until service time.
Visitation will be Friday from 5:30-7:00 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home.
The family will be at 715 East 17th Avenue, Pine Bluff.
