Carolyn Sue Morgan Rush, 80, went to be with her Lord on Oct. 24, 2013, at her daughter’s home surrounded by her loving family and friends.
She was born on Oct. 9, 1933, the only daughter of Ora Mae Morgan and Modie Daniel Morgan. She married Marshall Neil Rush on Aug. 8, 1953, in Pine Bluff, and they lived happily together for 52 years until his death. She was preceded in death by her mother and father; her husband; and two daughters, Allison Lee Rush and Kathryn Sue Rush.
Her survivors include one daughter, Stephany Rush Slagle and her husband Terry Malone of Hot Springs; one son, Marshall Morgan Rush and his wife Donna of Pine Bluff; 10 grandchildren, Richard Lynn Slagle Jr., Colin Grady Rush Slagle, Amy Slagle Sellars and her husband Kris Sellars, Marshall Anthony Shields, Ashley Elizabeth Garner, Kaitlan Alexa Rush Capel, Sarah Ryanne Capel, Mason Blain Rush, Marshall Mattison Rush, Morgan McKinley Rush; eight great-grandchildren, Laikyn Lynn Slagle, Braxton Neil Garner, Carson Jeffrey Braswell, Lily Scarlet Shields, Jackson Lee Sellars, James Ryan Sellars, Joshua Richard Sellars and Joseph Aron Sellars, and one half-brother, Richard Neil Morgan of Midlothian, Texas.
She was a homemaker and devoted her life to caring for her family. She was an active member of the Republican Party and served as a delegate at the Republican National Convention in Miami, in August of 1968. While attending the convention, she was honored to share a dance with movie legend John Wayne. She enjoyed hunting and fishing, the highlight being the annual family hunting trips to Texas.
She lived most of her life in Pine Bluff and was a member of First Baptist Church in Pine Bluff. She later moved to Hot Springs and moved her membership to First Baptist Church in Hot Springs.
She was a beautiful lady with bright, shiny eyes, a beautiful smile, and a sweet nature. She was an exceptionally strong woman with a huge heart. She was a blessing to her family and will be sorely missed.
Visitation will be Sunday from 2-4 p.m. at Hot Springs Funeral Home.
Also, a visitation will be held Monday, Oct. 28, 2013, at 9:30 a.m. at Graceland Cemetery in Pine Bluff, with a graveside service following at 10:30 a.m., with Pastor John McCallum officiating. Services will be conducted by Hot Springs Funeral Home of Hot Springs.
Pallbearers will be Richard Lynn Slagle Jr., Colin Grady Rush Slagle, Marshall Anthony Shields, Mason Blain Rush, Terry Malone and Robert Mitchell. Honorary pallbearers are Dr. Rick Bell, Bill Stewart, Richard Metcalf, Richard Guyant, Dr. Raymond Remmel, Doyle Kitler.
The family wishes to thank the caregivers, Edith Richley, Regina Smallwood, Tina Newman, Hospice of Central Arkansas, Ashley Rhodes, Evelin Tobar and Lin Carnahan, who were all such a blessing to Carolyn.
The family requests that memorials take the form of contributions to First Baptist Church Building Fund, 2350 Central Ave., Hot Springs, AR 71901. Arrangements are by Hot Springs Funeral Home.
