Bessie Juanita Bowen, 92, of Hope, Ark., died Saturday, February 1, 2014, at her home. She was born, January 1, 1922, in Jefferson County, Ark., to Aulsey and Elizabeth Milner Stone.
She was reared and educated in Altheimer and Wabbaseka, graduating from Wabbaseka High School in 1939. Mrs. Bowen had worked for a limited time as a nurse at Park Plaza Hospital in Houston, Texas. She was a member of Redfield Missionary Baptist Church and the Silver Streaks Senior Citizen Organization.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard C. Bowen, Sr.; children, Leonard Clyde Bowen, Jr., Linda Bowen; parents; six brothers and four sisters.
Survivors include her sisters, June (Allen) Shockley, Jeanne Kelly; grandsons, Lowell (Dena) Bowen, Paul (Molly) Bowen, Chase (Mackenzie) Bowen; great-grandchildren, Austin, Drake, Bailea, Brayden, Hayden, Annabella, Elsie; nephew, Bobby (Nannette) Stone; sister-in-laws, Shirley, Floy, Beverly; former daughter-in-law, Dinah Mathews and a caregiver, Janice Huckabee.
Visitation will be 5-7 p.m., Tuesday, February 4, 2014, at Robinson’s.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m., Wednesday, February 5, 2014, Chapel of Ralph Robinson & Son with Brother Ronnie Meredith officiating.
Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Redfield Tri County Charter School, c/o Relyance Bank, Redfield Branch, 804 Sheridan Road, Redfield, Ark. 72132.
