Michael Alvis Sr.

Michael Jay Alvis, Sr., 59, of Pine Bluff, died Sunday, January 19, 2014. He was born September 6, 1954 in Dallas, Texas, son of Leonard Alvis, Jr. and Jeannine Walters Alvis. Mr. Alvis was reared and received his early education in Pine Bluff, graduating from Pine Bluff High School. He retired as a boiler operator at the Little Rock Convention Center. Mr. Alvis was preceded in death by his father, Leonard Alvis, Jr.; and brother, Terry Alvis. Survivors include his mother, Jeannine W. Alvis of Pine Bluff; wife, Tammy Parsons Alvis; three sons, Michael Jay Alvis, Jr. of Pine Bluff, Matthew Jeremy Alvis of Little Rock and Chris Alvis of Tokyo, Japan; four daughters, Shannon (Bobby) Sanders of Sheridan, Cheyenne Alvis of Sheridan, Heather Alvis of Hot Springs and Melodi Alvis of Gulf Port, Miss., and four grandchildren. Mike was an accomplished guitarist. Music was his life. He was a gifted mathematician and brilliant artist. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m., Friday, January 24, 2014 in the Chapel of Ralph Robinson & Son with Reverend Kenneth Thornton officiating. Burial will follow in Graceland Cemetery.
