Melba Dean James, 87, Pine Bluff, Arkansas went to her heavenly home on August 15, 2014. She was born July 29, 1927 in Heavener, Oklahoma to the late Grady and Clemmie Yates Simmons. Melba, a homemaker, was a member of the Yorktown Free Will Baptist Church in Star City, an excellent cook and an avid gardener. She was happiest when taking care of her family, whether making pies, hand-made quilts or feeding anyone who walked through the door.
Melba is survived by two sons Michael Lance (Deborah) James Monticello, Arkansas, Bryan Kim James, Haskell, Arkansas, one daughter Jan (Jake) Alexander, Curtis, Arkansas, two sisters Barbara Sue Riley, Dumas, Arkansas, Glenda Vonne (Gene) Moring, Little Rock, Arkansas, one brother James Glendon (LaNell) Lambert, Dumas, Arkansas, one sister-in-law Lois Simmons Royal, Pine Bluff, Arkansas, Eight grandchildren and Six great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her step-father Glen Lambert, her husband of 63 years Willie Fay James, two sons Terry and Gerald Lee James and one brother Ezelle Simmons.
Visitation Monday, August 18, 5-7:00 PM, services Tuesday August 19, 10:00 AM both at Griffin Funeral Home Chapel, Dumas, Arkansas with Rev Frank Matchett officiating and burial in Walnut Lake Cemetery, memorials may be made to the Yorktown Free Will Baptist Church, Star City, Arkansas, 71667, arrangements by Griffin Funeral Home, Dumas, Arkansas.
