Mrs. Mary Magdalene Debro, affectionately known as “Mag”, was born December 5, 1912 to the late Minister Hubbard and Elizabeth Banks in Holly Grove, Ark. She was the 4th of 7 children. One evening while riding on a wagon with her father to a Revival being held in a cotton field, Mag confessed her hope in Christ. One of her favorite scriptures was Galatians 6:7, “Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soeth, that shall he also reap.” She received her education in the Lee County School System.
At the age of 20, she was united in Holy Matrimony to Tommie Debro. To this union two children were born, Mazie and William.
In 1943, the family moved from Holly Grove, Ark., to Pine Bluff, Ark. She united with First Baptist Church-Dew Drop under the leadership of Reverend John Shavers. She was a Sunday School Teacher, A member of the Choir, Usher Board, Mission Society, and Mothers Board. She was also a member of the Most Worshipful King Solomon Grand Lodge, Arkansas Jurisdiction, Order of the Eastern Star, AF/AM, Ruth #5.She worked at the Pine Bluff Arsenal cafeteria and the Truck Stop on Cedar Street where she retired as a cook.
On Wednesday, February 26, 2014, Heaven doors opened to welcome her. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, three brothers Joseph, Isiah, and LZ aka Johnny, three sisters, Christiana, Necie, and Easter, A son-in-law; Lawrence Hunt, Sr., and one Great granddaughter, Sonya Hunt Hall.
Precious memories will linger in the hearts and minds of her daughter; Mazie Hunt-Tyre (Samuel) of Pine Bluff, Ark., Son; William H. Debro of Indianapolis, Ind., nine Grandchildren, 24 Great-Grandchildren, 28 Great-Great Grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Funeral Services will be 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, March 4, 2014 at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church-Pine Bluff, Reverend Tommy L. Breamsey, officiating. Burial will be at Forrest Lawn Memorial Garden by Brown Funeral Home of Pine Bluff.
Visitation will be Monday, March 3, 2014from 3:00-6:30 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home. The family will be at 6106 Carbon Avenue, Pine Bluff.
