RISON — Luther Wells, 87, of Rison, Ark., died Tuesday, December 24, 2013, at his home. He was born September 19, 1926 in Newellton, La., to Bennie and Carrie Burton Wells.
Mr. Wells was reared and educated in Redwood, Miss., graduating from Redwood High School. He served in the United States Navy during World War II.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing and was a longtime fan of the Rison “Wildcats” football team. Mr. Wells had worked for 41 years at International paper before retiring as a supervisor.
He was a member of Bethel #1 Missionary Baptist Church in Rison and the VFW. He loved his Lord Jesus Christ.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Marvielee, Elijah and Charles Wells; sisters, Louise Walker and Dorothy Yeager.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Frances Wells, whom he married on October 22, 1971, in Greenville, Miss.; daughters, Sandra Kubik of Springfield, Mo., Alice Jenkins of Little Rock, Pamela Miller of Little Rock; a step-daughter, Patsy Cope of Rison; a step-son, Ronnie Brown of Hot Springs; a sister, Leatha Price of Jackson, Miss.; fifteen grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be Saturday, 5-7 p.m., at Robinson’s.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m., Sunday, December 29, 2013, Bethel #1Missionary Baptist Church in Rison, with Reverend John Fulmer and Reverend Gary Lambright officiating. Burial will follow in Black Cemetery.
