STAR CITY — Ms. Erma Jean Butler-Matthews was born November 1, 1934 to Dollie Mae Williams and Curley “Boots” Butler. She was her mother’s youngest.
She received her education in the Lincoln County School system. She confessed her belief in Christ at an early age. She was a member of the Wade Chapel Missionary Baptist in Star City until her health started to fail. She then united with Westside Missionary Baptist Church until her death.
Ms. Erma Jean shared her life for over fifty years with Thomas James Matthews. Together they were the parents of four girls.
She leaves to cherish her memories daughters, Correne (Archie) Walls-Dolls, Dollie (Elijah) Walls-Spence, Tracy Johnson of Star City, Charliss Matthews-Newman of Memphis Tenn.; six grandchildren; two sisters, Willene (Chester) Gidione and Pat Cuningkin; sixteen great grandchildren; five great great grandchildren; three god-daughters, Joann Spencer, Chandra Spencer, and Martha Johnson of Rison, Ark.; one godson, Tommy Reedy; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Services will be held Saturday January 4, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Westside Missionary Baptist Church in Star City, Ark. with Brother Archie Dolls officiating. Burial will be in Jones Cemetery by the P.K. Miller Mortuary of Pine Bluff. Visitation will be held Friday from 5-7 p.m. at the mortuary.
