Billy Ragan Brabston, age 80, of Pine Bluff, died Thursday, October 24, 2013.
Born October 10, 1933 at Pine Bluff, he was a son of the late James Eldridge Brabston, Sr. and Catherine Anne Ragan Brabston. He graduated from Pine Bluff High School in 1951, and then attended Arkansas A.&M. College and the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville. After his retirement, he completed a Bachelor of Science degree at UAPB in math education, and taught math in several schools.
He worked for 36 years for Middle South Utilities (later Entergy) retiring as a system dispatcher in 1993.
Bill served in the United States Navy aboard the USS Jason.
A member of Hawley Memorial United Methodist Church, he also served in many roles and volunteered at church and other community organizations.
A brother, Jimmy Brabston also predeceased him.
Bill’s survivors include his wife, Evelyn McCarthy Brabston, whom he married on February 7, 1959 at Pine Bluff; three daughters, Virginia Brabston Robinson and husband Mark, Barbara Brabston Kirkpatrick and husband the Rev. Daniel, and Carolyn Brabston Gunn and husband, Jerry; and two grandchildren, Matthew Cleveland Kirkpatrick and Catherine Ruth Kirkpatrick.
Memorial services will be Saturday, 2 p.m. at Hawley Memorial United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jackie Gregory officiating. Private burial will be in Graceland Cemetery by Fuller Hale-South Funeral Services.
Visitation will follow the service at the church.
