Berlene Alexander


ALTHEIMER - Berlene Stocker Alexander, 77, of Altheimer, Arkansas was born July 6, 1936, at Rison, Arkansas, a daughter of the late Silas Stocker and Lula Stewart Stocker.

She departed this life Friday, May 23, 2014, at Davis Life Care Center in Pine Bluff, Arkansas.

She professed a hope in Christ at an early age at Brown Chapel AME Church. She married Leorn “Brother”Alexander on Oct. 1, 1955, at Pine Bluff, Arkansas. She later joined Mount Bayou Baptist Church, under the leadership of the Rev. R.H. Atkinson. There she was a member of the Mother’s Board and the choir.

She was employed by Riceland Foods at Stuttgart, having worked from 1969 until her early retirement in 1991. She was known throughout the community for her delicious homemade pecan and sweet potato pies. She was also known for her love of driving around town in her car until her health began to fail.

Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Silas James Stocker and Eugene Stocker.

A loving wife, mother and grandmother to numerous grandchildren she helped to raise, she leaves to cherish her memory a devoted husband of 58 years, Leorn “Brother” Alexander; five daughters, Lula Williams of Little Rock, Arkansas, Marilyn (Floyd) Crater, Allyson (Jessie) Williams and Vanessa Alexander, all of Altheimer, Arkansas, and Tracy Alexander of Pine Bluff, Arkansas; two sons, Charles (Evelyn) Alexander and Micheal (Ann) Alexander, both of Altheimer, Arkansas; two sisters, Doris Gipson of Nashville, Tennessee and Lorena Holmes of Chicago, Illinois; one brother, Reuben (Mary) Stocker of Little Rock, Arkansas; 11 grandchildren, Nicole (Terry) Brown, Markisa Alexander, Krissie (Brandon) Patterson and Kabiona Anthony, all of Pine Bluff, Arkansas, Tabitha Crater of White Hall, Arkansas, Tashara Crater and Steven Braswell, both Altheimer, Arkansas, Gavin Braswell of Fayetteville, Arkansas, LeCury (Joann) McCray, Dwayne Ware and Andre Williams, all of Little Rock, Arkansas; 14 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Mount Bayou Baptist Church at Altheimer. Burial will be in Altheimer Community Cemetery by Perry Funeral Home of Pine Bluff.

There will be no formal wake, however, family and friends are welcome to visit the funeral home Friday and view the body.

The body will be at the church from 10 a.m. until service time Saturday.
