Star City’s Elvis Presley files for state land commissioner

LITTLE ROCK — Elvis is alive and well — and running for state land commissioner as a Libertarian.

Elvis D. Presley of Star City filed Thursday at the state Capitol. It’s the second time Presley has run for a constitutional office. In 2010, he filed as a write-in candidate for governor.

Presley is an Elvis impersonator and performs around the country. He also is an auto mechanic.

State Land Commissioner John Thurston, a Republican, filed for re-election earlier this week.

No Democrats have filed for the office so far. The weeklong filing deadline ends at noon Monday.
