Ross leads Hutchinson in March fundraising, cash on hand

LITTLE ROCK — Democratic candidate for governor Mike Ross led Republican Asa Hutchinson in March fundraising, according to campaign finance reports filed Tuesday with the secretary of state’s office.

Ross reported raising $222,274 in March. His campaign spent $138,155 and ended the month with $2 million on hand.

Hutchinson reported raising $200,179 and spending $280,967 last month. His campaign had $1.2 million on hand as of March 31.

Ross and Hutchinson, both former congressman, are generally considered the front-runners in their respective primaries. Hutchinson’s GOP rival, Little Rock businessman Curtis Coleman, reported that in March he raised $38,345 and spent $25,893 and that at the end of the month his campaign had $16,466 on hand.

Ross’ primary opponent, Little Rock substitute teacher Lynette Bryant, had not filed a fundraising report by Tuesday evening.

Democratic Gov. Mike Beebe is prohibited by term limits from seeking a third term.

The primary election is May 20, and the general election is Nov. 4.
