Death-row inmate dies

LITTLE ROCK — An Arkansas death-row inmate died Monday night at a hospital in Malvern, the state Department of Correction said Tuesday.

Joe Louis Dansby, 61, had been ill for some time and had spent most of the past two years at the Ouachita River Correctional Unit hospital, state Department of Correction spokeswoman Shea Wilson said. Dansby was taken to the Malvern hospital Monday night and was pronounced dead shortly after arrival at 10:35 p.m., she said.

Dansby’s body was taken to the state medical examiner’s office in Little Rock, Wilson said.

In 1997 Dansby was sentenced to die for the May 16, 1992, shooting deaths of Jeff Lewis, 23, and Malissa Clark, 21, both of Prescott, whose bodies were found near a logging road in Nevada County.
