Escapee captured

A man who escaped from a Dallas County jail around midnight Saturday was captured in Drew County on Monday morning shortly after 11 a.m. He was observed getting into a vehicle at an automated teller machine near a store across from the Drew County Road Department on U.S. 278 E.

Clinton Young, associate professor of history at the University of Arkansas at Monticello, has published a new book of Spanish historical studies titled “Music Theater and Popular Nationalism in Spain, 1880-1930.”

Monticello store donates $25,000 to children’s home

The Corner Store recently donated $25,000 to The Baptist Home for Children in Monticello. Marty Walter, a Monticello store manager, presented the check Nov. 24 to Baptist Home employees Randy Luper and Curt Crook. The Corner Store is one of the largest independent retailers of motor fuels and convenience merchandise in North America, a spokesman said. The donation was part of the proceeds from the annual Country Run 5K fun run held in 10 cities. The Baptist Home is a ministry of Arkansas Baptist Children’s Homes and Family Ministries (ABCHomes,) a 501 (c) 3 charitable organization. Details: (Special to The Commercial)

UAM-McGehee nursing students receive awards

Three students at the University of Arkansas at Monticello College of Technology-McGehee received scholarships by the 2014 practical nursing graduating class. Awards were through the student organization of the Arkansas Licensed Practical Nursing Association.
