Food safety inspections 8-9-14


The Arkansas Department of Health regulates the sale of food at establishments which include restaurants, bars, daycares, schools, grocery stores, convenience stores, bed and breakfast facilities, hotels/motels, mobile units and concession stands. Inspections are made unannounced by environmental health specialists.

The following are the results of food safety inspections conducted by the Jefferson County Health Department:

• Crenshaw Springs Water Park/Two Dogs Jack, 9801 Dollarway Road, White Hall. Date of inspection Aug. 6. Critical violation #21 — Deli meats out of their original package should be date marked (corrected on site during inspection.) Need test strips to test sanitizer strength.

• J-Mart Store, 13800 Dollarway Road, White Hall. Date of follow-up inspection Aug. 7. Sanitizer strength (chlorine in triple sink) 100 ppm. All previous violations corrected except: Ice bags should be labeled with store name and location. Need test strips to test sanitizer strength. Need a spring closure on restroom door (must be self-closing.) Ceiling in dry storage needs repair.

• Pizza Hut, 203 N. Blake St. Date of follow-up inspection Aug. 1. Sanitizer strength (automatic dishwasher - chlorine) 100 ppm. All previous violations corrected except: Need lids on trash cans in kitchen area.

• China Garden Buffet, 7203 Sheridan Road, White Hall. Date of routine inspection/complaint Aug. 7. Complaint: customer said they got sick off of shrimp fried rice. Critical violation #8 — Handwashing sink blocked. Critical violation #13 — Raw meats should not be stored above ready-to-eat foods. Critical violation #14 — Dishes are not being sanitized properly. Critical violation #19 — Some hot holding out of safe temperature range. Critical violation #20 — Some cold holding out of safe temperature range. Improper fly trap used. Food in walk-in cooler should stay covered to prevent contamination. Food in walk-in cooler and freezer should be at least 6 inches off the ground. Wiping cloths should be kept in a sanitized solution between uses. Ice scoop strored improperly. Improper scoops used. Need test strips to test sanitizer strength. Floors and ceiling in kitchen area need cleaned.

• Taco Bell, 8001 Sheridan Road, White Hall. Date of inspection Aug. 7. Sanitizer strength (QT in manual warewashing) 200 ppm. Observed several flies throughout establishment. Trash cans in kitchen area need lids.

• West Meadows Head Start, 4301 W. 18th Ave. Date of inspection Aug. 6. No food in head start; not in operation during time of inspection. Need a spring closure or other device on restroom door so it will be self-closing.

• Royal Oaks, 2500 Kenwood Drive. Date of inspection Aug. 4. Not operating during time of inspection. Need a self-closing bathroom door.

• Haley Street Head Start, #21 Haley St. Date of inspection Aug. 4. Not operating during time of inspection. No health permit posted.

• El Sol Mexican Restaurant, 3801 Camden Road. Date of inspection Aug. 5. Don’t block handwashing sink (corrected on site during inspection.) Don’t store boxes on floor in walk-in cooler; should be at least 6 inches from floor (corrected on site during inspection.) Trash can needs lid.

• Turning Point Youth Dev. Center, 508 S. Mulberry St. Date of inspection Aug. 5. No violations observed during time of inspection.

• David Vaughn Head Start Center, 2101 W. 11th Ave. Date of inspection Aug. 6. Not operating. No violations observed during time of inspection.

• Delta Center Cafeteria, 1701 Spruce St. Date of inspection Aug. 6. Establishment is not operating until Aug. 19. Need to replace bulb under venthood.

• L.A. Davis Thompson Hospitality, 1200 N. University Drive. Date of inspection Aug. 6. Need to replace bulbs under venthood.

• Nina’s Little Angels, 2205 W. 34th Ave. Date of inspection Aug. 5. Critical violation #26 — Toxic chemicals should be stored separate from foods (corrected on site during inspection.)

• Mazzio’s Italian Eatery, 8110 Sheridan Road, White Hall. Date of inspection Aug. 5. Sanitizer strength (chlorine) automatic dishwasher - 100 ppm. Critical violation #20 — Some cold holding temperatures out of safe range (must be 41 degrees F or below) in walk-in cooler and on salad line. Critical violation #26 — Toxic substances should be stored away from foods. Observed several flies during inspection. Wiping cloths should be kept in a sanitized solution between uses. Ice scoop stored improperly. Plates, bowls and cups should be stored face down to prevent contamination. Scoops used for food must be food-grade. Shelves need cleaning. Microwave needs cleaning. Trash cans in kitchen area must have lids. Some ceiling not cleanable. Floors in kitchen/dry storage needs to be cleaned.

• St. Peters Head Start, 1515 State St. Date of inspection Aug. 4. Not in operation during time of inspection. Need shielding on all lights in kitchen area.

• Creative Kids, 906 E. 21st Ave. Date of inspection July 24. OK to operate - permit given.
