Food safety inspections


The Arkansas Department of Health regulates the sale of food at establishments which include restaurants, bars, daycares, schools, grocery stores, convenience stores, bed and breakfast facilities, hotels/motels, mobile units and concession stands. Inspections are made unannounced by environmental health specialists.

The following are the results of food safety inspections conducted by the Jefferson County Health Unit:

• Autie M’s Day Care, 2101 W. 17th Ave. Date of follow-up inspection July 28. Violations corrected during follow-up inspection.

• Sav U Mor LLC, 310 S. Blake St. Date of routine inspection/complaint July 25. Complaint (Meat department: improper thawing, pans and meat saw unclean, some fans in meat cooler are out with no cover, produce and meat cooler unclean.) Critical violation #8 — Handwashing sink in meat department should not be blocked (corrected on site during inspection.) Critical violation #8 — Need paper towels at handwashing sink in meat department (corrected on site during inspection.) Critical violation #13 — Ready to eat foods should be stored above raw meats (corrected on site during inspection.) Cutting boards in meat department should be resurfaced or replaced. Dairy and meat coolers have condensation leaking from fans. Fans in meat department need to be cleaned. Need spring closures on restroom doors. Floor in meat department and back freezer not cleanable.

• Chili’s, 5511 Olive St. Date of routine inspection/complaint July 30. Need to clean racks where cups are stored. Need to clean ice cooler.

• Chili’s, 5511 Olive St. Date of follow-up inspection July 31. All violations corrected during time of follow-up inspection.

• Walgreen’s, 2503 W. 28th Ave. Date of inspection July 31. No current health permit posted.

• St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 412 W. Sixth Ave. Date of inspection July 31. No violations observed during time of inspection.

• Precious Memories Too, 6022 Sheridan Road. Date of inspection July 31. No current health permit posted.

• Precious Memories Learning Center, 6214 Dollarway Road. Date of inspection July 31. Need paper towels at handwashing sink (corrected on site during inspection.)

• J-Mart Store, 13800 Dollarway Road, White Hall. Date of inspection July 31. Critical violation #1 — No current health permit posted. Critical violation #4 — Drinks in kitchen must have lids and straws (corrected on site during inspection.) Critical violation #13 — Meats should be stored below ready to eat foods (corrected on site during inspection.) Critical violation #13 — Spoon handle should not be in pizza sauce. Critical violation #14 — Food contact surfaces should be cleaned and sanitized. Critical violation #14 — Can opener blade needs to be cleaned. Ice bags should be labeled with store name and location. Foods in bulk bins out of their original package should be properly labeled. Food should be stored at least 6 inches off the ground. (corrected on site during inspection.) Wiping cloths should be kept in a sanitized solution between uses (corrected on site during inspection.) Ice scoop stored improperly. Need test strips to test sanitizer strength. Need a spring closure on restroom door (must be self closing.) Floors need to be cleaned. Ceiling in dry storage needs repairing. Need more lighting in dry storage.

• Kentucky Fried Chicken, 2707 W. 28th Ave. Date of inspection July 30. Food in walk-in cooler should stay covered to prevent contamination. Trash cans in kitchen area need lids. Kitchen floors need to be cleaned. Some parts of walk-in freezer floor and kitchen floor not cleanable.

• Art’s Ice, 902 River Road, Redfield. Date of inspection July 30. Need paper towels at handwashing sink (corrected on site during inspection.) Need protective shielding over lights.

• Taco Bell, 2712 Olive St. Date of inspection July 29. (Business wasn’t opened to customers during inspection; has been closed for remodeling; planned to open tonight - July 29.) Sanitizer strength (manual warewashing - QT) 200 ppm. Restrooms should have doors that are self-closing. Need lids on trash cans in kitchen area.

• Stop N Shop Express, 131512 U.S. 79 N, Altheimer. Date of inspection July 29. No current health permit posted. Critical violation #8 — Don’t block handwashing sink (corrected on site during inspection.) Critical violation #8 — Need soap and paper towels at handwashing sink (corrected on site during inspection.) Need sanitizer test strips to ensure proper cleaning. Need more lighting in kitchen area. Garbage cans all need lids. Need container to store fish fry, flour and cornmeal. Need to label all ice bags with name, address and phone number (of store.)

• HR Food Mart, 201 Edline. Date of inspection July 29. Critical violation #4 — All drinking (cups) must have a lid and straw (corrected on site during inspection.) Controlling pests in establishment (flies.) Need sanitizer test strips. Trash cans need lids. Need to clean floors and walls.

• Pizza Hut, 2203 E. Harding Ave. Date of inspection July 28. Trash cans in kitchen area need lids. Some flooring not cleanable.

• Pizza Hut, 203 N. Blake. Date of inspection July 28. Critical violation #14 — No sanitizer reading detected in automatic dishwasher. Need lids on trash cans in kitchen area.

• Arby’s, Highway 63 B. Date of inspection July 28. Don’t store onions on floor in walk-in cooler; should be six inches from the floor (corrected on site during inspection.) Need sanitizer test strips to check sanitizer level. Need to clean fan in establishment.

• Rally’s Hamburgers, 403 N. Blake St. Date of inspection July 28. Walk-in cooler was 42 degrees F; should be 41 degrees F or below. Don’t store boxes on floor in walk-in cooler; should be six inches from floor.

• Church’s Fried Chicken, 1601 Cherry St. Date of inspection July 28. Don’t store paper goods on floor; should be six inches from floor (corrected on site during inspection.) Need to check automatic dispensing of sanitizers (not coming properly; will come back Aug. 4 to check.) Keep wiping cloths in sanitizer solution after use. Floors are not cleanability surface.

• Mr. Petroleum, 3100 Hazel St. Date of inspection July 24. Ice bags should be properly labeled with store name and address. Bulk bins must be labeled with contents name. Observed several flies throughout establishment. Seals on cooler doors need repairing. Outside of tubs of seasoning/breading need cleaning. Trash cans in kitchen area need lids. Floors, walls and ceilings need cleaning. Some ceiling tiles need replacing. Need more lighting under venthood.

• Sunshine Childcare Center, 1927 S. Chestnut St. Date of inspection July 25. Keep wiping cloths in sanitizer solution after each use.

• Shopwise, 1024 Sheridan Road, Redfield. Date of inspection July 25. Don’t stock food items above shelf line (corrected on site during inspection.) Don’t store tomatoes on floor; should be six inches from floor (corrected on site during inspection.) Need test strips to test sanitizer levels.
