Food safety inspections


The Arkansas Department of Health regulates the sale of food at establishments which include restaurants, bars, daycares, schools, grocery stores, convenience stores, bed and breakfast facilities, hotels/motels, mobile units and concession stands. Inspections are made unannounced by environmental health specialists.

The following are the results of food safety inspections conducted by the Jefferson County Health Unit:

• Burger King, 5515 Olive St. Date of inspection July 24. Don’t store food on the freezer floor, boxes should be 6 inches from floor. Dishwasher sanitizer solution was 100 ppm.

• Hampton Inn, 511 Mallard Loop. Date of inspection July 24. No violations observed during time of inspection.

• Southeast Arkansas Community Punishment, 7301 W. 13th Ave. Date of inspection July 24. Need to replace light bulb under venthood.

• Anne’s Country Cafe, 3714 Camden Road. Date of routine inspection/complaint July 14. Make sure to keep ice under food prep area for cold holding, temp at least 41 degrees F (or) below. Hot hold (steam table) needs to be replaced. Controlling pest in establishment. Need thermometers in a cooler and freezers. Food in cooler needs to be organized. Floors, walls and ceiling not cleanable surface. Need sanitizing solutions, test strips to ensure proper cleaning (corrected on site during inspection.) Need to (address) ceiling for spider web and dust.

• Anne’s Country Cafe, 3714 Camden Road. Date of follow-up inspection July 24. During follow-up inspection all violations were corrected.

• Wendy’s, 2910 Pines Mall Drive. Date of inspection July 23. Sanitizer strength (qt. in manual warewashing) 150-200 ppm. Critical violation #1 — No current permit posted. Need thermometers in all coolers and freezers. Need lids on trash cans in kitchen area.

• Rally’s Hamburgers, 2301 W. 28th Ave. Date of inspection July 23. Critical violation #26 — Toxic chemicals should be properly labeled with identifying information (corrected on site during inspection.) Need trash lids on cans in kitchen area. Sanitizer strength (chlorine) 100 ppm.

• KFC, 3002 Pines Mall Drive. Date of inspection July 23. Trash cans in kitchen area need lids. Floors in kitchen area need cleaned. Sanitizer strength (qt. in manual dishwashing) 200 ppm.

• Treble’s After School 4 Kids, 1219 Main St. Date of inspection July 22. Sanitizer strength (manual warewashing) QT 200 ppm. Critical violation #1 — No current permit posted. Critical violation #26 — Toxic substances should be properly labeled (corrected on site during inspection) and toxic substances should be properly stored (corrected on site during inspection.) Outside of fryers need cleaned. Need lids on trash cans in kitchen area. Some floors not cleanable. Need more lighting in kitchen and dry storage. All lights in kitchen should be shielded.

• Gino’s, 2701 S. Olive St. Date of inspection July 21. No current permit posted (last permit expired 06/30/2014.) Food in boxes in walk-in freezer should be stored at least 6 inches off the ground. Ice scoop stored improperly. Need test strips to test sanitizer strength. Outside of fryers need cleaned. Need lids on trash cans in kitchen area. Need more lighting in dry storage. Need protective shielding over all lights in kitchen area.

• Outlaw’s Smokehouse - mobile, 3818 W. Sixth Ave. Date of routine inspection/complaint July 21. Complaint inspection - owner said they were about to leave from site. Complaint was that they had a dog in the mobile unit. Water was turned off and coolers just unplugged to leave. No dog seen during time of inspection. Thermometers needed in all coolers and freezers. Need more lighting in mobile. Need test strips to test sanitizer strength.

• CASA Women’s Shelter, 1113 State St. Date of inspection July 17. Some flooring not cleanable.

• 28th Street Citgo, 2901 W. 28th Ave. Date of inspection July 16. Critical violation #8 — Handwashing sink blocked (corrected on site during inspection) and need soap and paper towels at handwashing sink (corrected on site during inspection.) Critical violation #13 — Raw chicken should not be stored above ready to eat foods (corrected on site during inspection.) Ice bags should be labeled with store name and location. Observed several flies throughout establishment. Potatoes in box should be stored at least 6 inches off the cooler floor (corrected on site during inspection.) Wiping clothes should be kept in a sanitized solution between uses. Cutting board should be resurfaced or replaced. Shelves in walk-in cooler need cleaned. Need lighting in walk-in freezer. All lights in kitchen area should be shielded.

• Hardee’s, 2828 W. 28th Ave. Date of inspection July 16. Sanitizer strength QT (manual dish washing) 200-400 ppm. Floors in dry storage area need cleaned. Wall near fryer needs cleaned. Return air vent grate should completely cover opening. Some equipment should be cleaned for dust and grease. Light bulb in walk-in cooler should be shielded. Need more lighting in back of walk-in cooler.

• McDonald’s, 2819 Olive St. Date of inspection July 16. Sanitizer strength QT (manual dish washing) 200 ppm. Thermometers needed in all coolers and freezers. Ice scoop not designed with handle to protect food from contamination. Need test strips to test sanitizer strength. Outside of drawers near triple sink need cleaned (corrected on site during inspection.) Hot water not available at handwashing sink in front. Need lids on trash cans in kitchen area. Fry scoop stored improperly (corrected on site during inspection.)

• Seabrook Family Christian Center, 6809 S. Hazel St. Date of inspection July 15. Bulk bins of food out of its original package should be properly labeled. Need a triple sink for manual warewashing. Trash cans in kitchen area must have lids.

• MoMa Keta’s Childcare Dev. Center, 2300 W. 31st Ave. Date of inspection July 15. Need thermometer in all cooler and freezer. Need sanitized test strips to ensure proper sanitizing.

• R and N Foods, 5901 Sulphur Springs Road. Date of inspection July 14. Need sanitizing test strips to check sanitize levels (corrected on site during inspection).

• Best Western Pres. Hotel, U.S. 65 and Market Street. Date of inspection July 14. No current health permit posted (corrected on site during inspection.) Need thermometer in all coolers and freezer (corrected on site during inspection.) Need to label food container. Don’t store food on floor, must be at least 6 inches from floor.

• Auntie M’s Daycare, 2101 W. 17th Ave. Date of inspection July 14. Temperature control should be 41 degrees F below, need to check cooler (50 degrees F). Need to replace light bulb in cooler.

• Big Banjo Pizza Parlor, 4208 W. 28th Ave. Date of inspection July 8. Hair restraints.

• Mrs. Sonya Child Care, 4000 Old Warren Road. Date of inspection July 8. Dishwasher was 100 ppm - checked with chlorine test paper. Don’t block handwash sink (corrected on site during inspection.) Don’t store apple sauce on the floor, should be at least 6 inches off floor.

• Redwood Inn, 8006 Sheridan Road. Date of inspection July 11. Need a three compartment sink for manual warewashing. Ceiling in kitchen area not cleanable.
