Woman arrested in alleged employee theft

An investigation into an alleged employee theft at Staples led to the arrest of one person who allegedly issued refunds on receipts when no merchandise was returned.

Kalya Messinger, 22, was arrested Friday after police were contacted by the store’s loss prevention manager, Detective Jeremy Oswalt said during a court hearing Monday.

Oswalt said the store has provided receipts showing an approximate loss of $7,000 so far and said he still has an additional 100 to 150 receipts to go through.

He said the receipts were dated from April 8 to July 8.

Pine Bluff District Judge John Kearney set a $10,000 bond for Messinger after ruling prosecutors had probable cause to charge her with theft of property.

Messinger said she would hire her own attorney.
