Woman arrested for alleged employee theft

A Pine Bluff woman was arrested Friday after she allegedly admitted taking money from a cash register at JCPenney in the Pines Mall while she was working there.

Shartal McMiller, 19, allegedly told Detective Marcia Oliver that she had been taking money out of a register since Oct., 19, and had taken approximately $1,000.

According to the probable-cause affidavit, another employee reported seeing McMiller take a $100 bill and put it in her back pocket after a customer had paid for merchandise

Jefferson County District Judge Kim Bridgforth set a $2,500 bond for McMiller, who Deputy Prosecutor Maxie Kizer said had no prior convictions or pending charges, after ruling that prosecutors had probable cause to charge her with theft of property.

The Public Defender’s Office was appointed to represent McMiller.
