A Pine Bluff woman was arrested Tuesday after she allegedly broke into a newspaper box and took several papers.
Natasha Harkless, 38, told police she put her money in The Pine Bluff Commercial box at Brookshire’s on South Camden Road at about 6:15 p.m., but the machine wouldn’t open to allow her to get a paper, Detective Larry Gailey said in a probable cause affidavit presented in court Wednesday.
Deputy Prosecutor Carol Billings said Harkless told police she contacted the manager of the store but he wouldn’t help her and Harkless said she “got mad and broke the glass” on the box.
Gailey said in the affidavit an off-duty police officer from Grady who was working security at the store detained Harkless until Pine Bluff police arrived.
Pine Bluff District Judge John Kearney set a $2,500 bond for Harkless after ruling prosecutors had probable cause to charge her with breaking or entering.
Harkless said she would hire her own attorney.
