Vehicle strikes two pedestrians

Two people were injured Thursday night when they were struck by a vehicle while attempting to cross U.S. 79 at North Pinewood, according to the Arkansas State Police.

ASP Cpl. Marlon Briggs said Megan Sperry, 23, and Justin Lindsey, 5, both from Star City, were struck by a car driven by Michaela Montgomery, 28, of Pine Bluff, that was southbound on the highway. Sperry said in a message to The Commercial that she is actually 22.

Briggs said Sperry was struck by the front right of the vehicle near the headlight, and thrown 49 feet north from the point of impact behind the vehicle. Lindsey was struck by the front of the vehicle and was thrown 47 feet south.

Both were taken to Jefferson Regional Medical Center by ambulance, and according to a hospital spokesman, both have been discharged.

Briggs said Montgomery told officers she did not see the pair attempting to cross the highway, and added that the area is extremely dark.

The accident was reported at 8:14 p.m.

No citations have been issued and the accident is still under investigation.
