Traffic Stop leads to drug arrest

What began as a traffic stop for a vehicle that allegedly had too dark tint on its windows Saturday ended in the arrest of a Pine Bluff man on drug charges.

Donnell Carter, 42, is also listed as an absconder by the Department of Correction, according to the intake log at the adult jail.

Detective Michael Battles said in a probable-cause affidavit that he and Detective Richard McCorvy were in the area of West 13th Avenue and Fir Street when they saw a cream-colored vehicle whose windows appeared to have too dark a tint.

Carter was driving and according to the affidavit, “was shaking nervously.”

Battles said he asked Carter for permission to search the car and found a rock of suspected cocaine in the front driver’s side door pocket.

Jefferson County District Judge Kim Bridgforth set a $10,000 cash-only bond for Carter after ruling that prosecutors had probable cause to charge him with possession of a controlled substance.

Carter said he would hire his own attorney.
