'Suspicious death' of Pine Bluff man under investigation by police

The body of a man who was found unresponsive on a couch at his home and later pronounced dead Sunday has been sent to the State Medical Examiner’s Office to determine the cause and manner of death.

Jefferson County Coroner Chad Kelley pronounced Antonio Jenkins, 23, dead at 11:53 a.m. Sunday after police and emergency medical personnel had been sent to 2813 S. Florida St., in response to a “man down.”

Police Lt. David Price said in a news release that Jenkins had been involved in an altercation while attending a party in the early morning hours Sunday at West Fourth Avenue and Chestnut Street, and was taken home by some family members.

According to the release, Jenkins was last seen asleep and snoring on the couch, and when family members tried to wake him at about 11 a.m., he was unresponsive.

Police are considering the death “suspicious” and are continuing their investigation.
