An investigation into the alleged rape of a child by a man who was asked to watch him resulted in the arrest of a Monticello man who had been living in White Hall with his girlfriend.
Floyd Barnett, 45, allegedly had sex with the 4-year-old boy after the child’s mother left him and another child with Barnett while she went to a store, White Hall Police Sgt. John Zuber said in a probable-cause affidavit presented in court Monday.
Deputy Prosecutor Karres Manning said when the mother returned, the child told her what happened and after the mother examined the child, he was taken to Jefferson Regional Medical Center, then to the Children’s Advocacy Center where a medical examination was performed.
Jefferson County District Judge Kim Bridgforth set a $100,000 bond for Barnett after ruling that prosecutors had probable cause to charge him with rape.
Bridgforth also ordered Barnett to have no contact with the alleged victim until the case is settled.
