A Pine Bluff man was shot multiple times Tuesday night in what he told police was an attempt to rob him.
Freddie Lee Kelly, 55, received wounds to the abdomen and facial area and was transported to Jefferson Regional Medical Center, and has reportedly been transferred to a Little Rock hospital for treatment.
Kelly was found laying in the driveway at about 9:49 p.m. at Cm & K Paint and Body Shop at 801 E. Second Ave., after police responded to a report of shots fired.
Officer Billy Robertson said in a report that Kelly told him he had been shot by two black males who fled on foot going south on Missouri Street.
According to the report, Kelly’s wallet — containing an unknown amount of cash was found inside the business — and both .380-caliber and .45-caliber shell casings were found at the scene.
A second witness told police they heard multiple gunshots then saw a black male wearing khaki pants and a blue hoodie run south on Missouri Street and cross the railroad tracks.
Officer Jerry Hayes, who was working off-duty security at the hospital said in a report a doctor called him into an examination room at the Emergency Room after the doctor found a .45-caliber semi-automatic handgun in a holster that was on Kelly’s right side, and that weapon, holster and two magazines were turned over to detectives.
