A Pine Bluff man who was shot by police after he allegedly pointed a gun at them following a robbery on Dec. 6 has died, according to Jefferson County Coroner Chad Kelley.
Kelley said Samuel Freeman, 23, was pronounced dead by a doctor at Jefferson Regional Medical Center just after 9 p.m. Sunday.
The body is expected to be sent today to the Arkansas State Crime Laboratory for an autopsy.
Freeman was one of several people who were allegedly involved in the robbery of the Family Dollar at 3000 W. 28th Ave. and was confronted by officers who had been staking out that business and others across town following a series of robberies at dollar stores and convenience stores.
The officers involved in the shooting are on administrative leave with pay pending an investigation. They have not been identified.
