Reported domestic disturbance leads to drug and gun arrest

A report of a domestic disturbance Tuesday on the south side of Pine Bluff resulted in the arrest of a woman on drug and weapons charges.

Dawn Martinez, 40, who is currently on probation, was taken into custody after officers found a bag containing about 2 ounces of suspected marijuana, Vice and Narcotics Detective Keith Willoughby said during court testimony Wednesday.

Willoughby said officers also found a .38-caliber handgun and bags for packaging the suspected marijuana.

Deputy Prosecutor Maxie Kizer said Martinez pleaded guilty to two counts of fraud to obtain a controlled substance in 2011 and, according to records at the prosecutor’s office, was placed on probation for 24 months in 2011. That probation was restarted this year.

Pine Bluff District Judge John Kearney ruled prosecutors had probable cause to charge Martinez with simultaneous possession of drugs and firearms and with being a felon in possession of a firearm and set her bond at $25,000.

The Public Defender’s Office was appointed to represent Martinez.
