Police seeking info on hit-and-run vehicle, driver

Pine Bluff police are asking for help in locating a vehicle that left the scene after hitting a gate early Thursday morning at Welch Motor Company at 2505 S. Olive St., damaging three new vehicles inside the lot.

Office Richard Wegner said in a press release the suspect vehicle is a white General Motors brand single-cab pickup, and according to a preliminary report from Detective Mike Sweeney, the vehicle should have front-end damage and the bug guard from the front of the vehicle was left at the scene of the accident.

Sweeney said in the statement that security video from Welch showed the truck turning north from West 26th Avenue onto Olive Street and fish tailing on the wet street before driving into the gate. The vehicle then backed up and left the scene going north on Olive Street. Welch’s staff estimated it happened at about 2 a.m.

According to an accident report from Officer Keith Banks, the truck struck the gate, knocking it into a 2014 Nissan Cube SUV, which slid into a 2014 Nissan Altima. The gate also struck a 2014 Nissan Rogue as it was falling.

Damage to the Nissan Cube was estimated at $2,500. Damage to the Nissan Altima was estimated at $3,000 and damage to the Nissan Rogue was estimated at $1,500.
