Police arrest suspect in Thursday night shooting

One person was shot and a second arrested after a reported altercation on the west side of Pine Bluff on Thursday night.

Police said Jacquez Beard, 19, received a gunshot wound to the leg and was taken to Jefferson Regional Medical Center for treatment.

Kavon White, 22, allegedly shot Beard after the two got into a physical altercation at 2105 W. 24th Ave., at 8:14 p.m., Detective Temmiothy Johnson of the Pine Bluff Police Department said in a probable-cause affidavit that was presented in court Friday.

According to the affidavit, a witness to the incident said she heard an argument between Beard and White, then heard what she described as a “bump-like fight” before hearing a gunshot.

Jefferson County District Judge Kim Bridgforth set a $25,000 bond for White after ruling that prosecutors had probable cause to charge him with first-degree battery.

White also was ordered to have no contact with Beard until the case is settled.
