Police arrest man allegedly seen in vehicle that didn’t belong to him

A Pine Bluff man was arrested Thursday after he was allegedly seen inside a parked vehicle that didn’t belong to him on West 37th Avenue.

Antonio Weaver, 21, allegedly told police he thought the car belonged to a friend of his and was just trying to get some personal items out, Deputy Prosecutor Nicole Pugh said during a court hearing Friday for Weaver.

Detective Steven Rucker said in a probable cause affidavit that the vehicle owners called police after they heard an alarm go off on their vehicle, and when they looked out, allegedly saw Weaver sitting in the vehicle and confronted him.

Pugh said Weaver had previously been charged with breaking or entering and theft of property but the status of those charges could not be determined Friday.

Jefferson County District Judge Kim Bridgforth set a $10,000 bond for Weaver after ruling prosecutors had probable cause to charge him with breaking or entering.

The Public Defender’s Office was appointed to represent Weaver.
