PB man accused in beating, robbery

A Pine Bluff man was arrested Monday and is accused of beating and robbing a man at gunpoint.

Marquell White, 18, appeared in court Wednesday, where Pine Bluff District Judge John Kearney ruled prosecutors have probable cause to charge him with aggravated robbery and set a $25,000 cash-only bond for White.

According to an affidavit from Pine Bluff Police Department Detective Cassandra McAfee, officers were dispatched at 7 p.m. Monday to speak with the alleged victim, who said he had been in the 1900 block of East Seventh Avenue when two males ran up on the porch and pulled out a gun.

One of them, later identified as White, allegedly started beating him, then allegedly searched his pockets and took $2,100 cash.

McAfee spoke with other witnesses at the scene who also identified White as the suspect, according to the affidavit.

When White was questioned by police, he allegedly told police he did get in a physical altercation with the alleged victim, but that he did not have a gun and he did not take money from the alleged victim.

In addition to setting the bond, Kearney issued a no-contact order with the alleged victim and appointed a public defender to represent White.
