Officer accused of rape fired from police department

A now-former Pine Bluff police officer who was accused of rape and arrested Tuesday was fired Wednesday.

Police spokesman Lt. David Price said Officer Maurice Hopkins was terminated for conduct unbecoming an officer.

Hopkins surrendered to police Tuesday afternoon after a warrant was issued for his arrest accusing him of the rape of an adult female on Sunday.

He was booked into the adult detention center and released a short time later after posting a $100,000 bond.

Hopkins had been with the department for two years and nine months, according to a press release from Price on Tuesday.

He had been placed on administrative leave with pay following the filing of the complaint and was fired following the completion of an internal investigation.

Hopkins has 10 days to appeal his termination.
