Man shoots himself in front of police

A man shot himself in front of police Monday and was being treated at the hospital for what police described as “serious injuries.”

The name of the man was not immediately released, pending notification of next of kin.

Pine Bluff police officers Keith Wright and Princess Danzy were patrolling in the area of Dollarway Road and Moreland Street when they were flagged down by a motorist, according to a press release from police spokesman officer Richard Wegner.

As the officers approached the car, a white male driver got out armed with a pistol. He then pointed the gun at himself and fired a single round, striking himself in the chest.

Wright disarmed him as Danzy called for an ambulance. The man was transported to Jefferson Regional Medical Center.
