Man accused of sending sexual texts to 14-year-old girl

A $10,000 bond was set Friday for a Pine Bluff man who allegedly sent text messages of a sexual nature and an explicit photograph to a 14-year-old girl.

Pine Bluff District Judge John Kearney set the bond after ruling that prosecutors had probable cause to charge Shawn Campbell, 40, with sexual indecency with a minor and with sexually explicit conduct.

Detective Chris Wieland of the Pine Bluff Police Department said in a probable-cause affidavit presented in court that the girl’s parents came to the Detective Office on Monday to report the incident.

Deputy Prosecutor Nicole Pugh said Campbell was described by the parents as a “family friend for over 30 years.”

According to the affidavit, the girl received several text messages of a sexual nature as well as a photograph allegedly of Campbell’s genitals. The messages allegedly asked the girl to have sex with Campbell and to send nude photographs of herself to Campbell.

In addition to setting the bond, Kearney ordered Campbell, who Pugh said had no prior convictions or pending charges, to have no contact with the alleged victim until the case is settled.

The Public Defender’s Office was appointed to represent Campbell.
