Police are investigating a homicide in the 1700 block of South Linden Street after responding to a call of shots being fired shortly before 9:30 p.m. Monday.
Interviewed at the scene at about 10 p.m., Pine Bluff Police Chief Jeff Hubanks said few details were immediately available and the investigation was very much ongoing.
“He is reported to be 19 years of age and I would like to keep his name close to the vest for the moment until next of kin of notified,” Hubanks said. “This just happened. We haven’t had a chance to really drill down and find out who his relatives are and who we need to contact yet. There was a gunshot reported and he may have received a gunshot wound — it’s very early — can’t tell just yet.”
Department spokesman Officer Richard Wegner later confirmed that the victim had been pronounced dead at the scene of an apparent gunshot wound.
The victim was found in garage area of a white house. The front of the house faces Linden Street, but the garage faces 18th Avenue. Police had much of 18th Avenue and Linden Street on either side of the house taped off as part of the potential crime scene.
Wegner said that after the initial call of shots being fired, police received a second call while still en route that a house had been shot up.
Police did not immediately release any information on a possible suspect or motive. Anyone with information is asked to call detectives at 870-730-2090 or dispatch at 870-541-5300.
