Drug arrest made during shooting investigation

Police allegedly found marijuana in a car and on a suspect while investigating a reported shooting earlier this week.

Nicholas Jackson, 24, was arrested after Pine Bluff police stopped a white convertible on Spears Street while investigating the shooting report, Deputy Prosecutor Nicole Pugh said at a probable cause hearing Thursday. An officer who pulled over Jackson requested backup because Jackson appeared ready to flee on foot, Pugh said.

Officers got permission from Jackson to search the car and allegedly found 37 grams of a substance that tested positive as marijuana and a digital scale, but no weapons, Pugh said. Jackson was later allegedly found carrying two ounces of marijuana in his pocket, Pugh said.

Jackson does not have prior felony arrests, Pugh said.

Pine Bluff District Court Judge Kim Bridgforth ruled that prosecutors have probable cause to charge Jackson with possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia and set a $10,000 bond.
