Bond set in alleged theft

A $10,000 bond was set Wednesday for a Pine Bluff man who allegedly grabbed money from a business in the Jefferson Square Shopping Center on Monday but was stopped when a store employee locked the door and called police.

Deputy Prosecutor Nicole Pugh said Brandon Murray, 24, entered the business, went around the counter and took a stack of $20 bills that the employee was counting before closing the store.

When Murray tried to leave, the clerk locked the door until police arrived.

Jefferson County District Judge Kim Bridgforth set a $10,000 bond for Murray, who Pugh said had no prior convictions or pending charges, after ruling that prosecutors had probable cause to charge him with theft of property.

Murray said he would hire his own attorney.
