Bond set in alleged sexual assault

A $25,000 bond was set Friday for a man who allegedly had inappropriate sexual contact with a 12-year-old girl.

Christopher Mitchell, 36, is facing charges of first-degree sexual assault after Jefferson County District Judge Kim Bridgforth ruled Friday that prosecutors have probable cause to charge him and set the bond.

Testifying at the court hearing, Detective Mike Sweeney said he was given a case file from the Children’s Advocacy Center on Wednesday that detailed the alleged contact.

Sweeney detailed one incident in court and also said the alleged victim said there were incidents between November 2013 and June 2014.

Asked by Pugh, Sweeney said the alleged victim did not have any physical trauma but had suffered mental trauma.

In addition to setting the bond, Bridgforth ordered Mitchell to have no contact with the alleged victim until the case is settled.

The Public Defender’s Office was appointed to represent Mitchell.
