Bond set in alleged robbery

A $25,000 bond was set Thursday for a Pine Bluff man who allegedly pushed employees of the Family Dollar Store in the Jefferson Square Shopping Center when they tried to stop him from leaving the store with merchandise he had not paid for.

Jefferson County District Judge Kim Bridgforth set the bond after ruling prosecutors had probable cause to charge Larry Reed, 50, with robbery.

Reed allegedly concealed merchandise and was seen by an employee on the store’s security system, according to a probable cause affidavit presented in court Thursday.

According to the affidavit, Reed pushed and hit the employee before running out of the store as police were arriving and he was taken into custody after a chase at West 26th Avenue and Olive Street.

Police recovered three boxes of Tide Detergent that Reed had allegedly concealed.

Records at the Prosecutor’s Office showed that Reed had prior felony convictions dating back to 1997.
