Bond set in alleged child abuse case

A $10,000 bond was set Monday for a woman who allegedly whipped her 6-year-old daughter, leaving bruises on the girl’s back.

Jefferson County District Judge Kim Bridgforth set the bond after ruling prosecutors had probable cause to charge Angela Turner, 34, with second-degree domestic battery.

Reading from an affidavit from Detective Cassandra McAfee, Deputy Prosecutor Nicole Pugh said police were called Saturday after the child’s grandmother found the bruises while getting ready to give the girl a bath.

On Sunday when Turner was interviewed, she allegedly said she had whipped the girl because she and another sibling could not get along.

In addition to setting the bond, Bridgforth ordered Turner to have no contact with the child until the case is settled.

The Public Defender’s Office was appointed to represent Turner.
