Accident sends SUV down freeway embankment

A Monday morning single-vehicle accident sent a man to Jefferson Regional Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries according to a spokesman with the Arkansas State Police.

ASP Trooper Ryan Felton said Tuesday that Baltazar Arellano of Pine Bluff was the sole occupant of a 2005 Ford Escape that was traveling south on Interstate 530 approaching the exit for U. S. Highway 79 in Watson Chapel at 10:45 a.m. Monday, when the accident occurred.

“Arellano lost control of the vehicle, which went over the guardrail into the area between the south- and northbound overpasses, flipped and landed on its roof down below on Camden Road,” Felton said. “Amazingly, no other vehicles were involved in the accident. The driver was transported to JRMC for evaluation by EASI Ambulance Service.”

Felton said the accident remained under investigation Tuesday.
