The White Hall School Board in a Tuesday night meeting unanimously approved a one-year contract extension for Superintendent Larry Smith.
The extension gave Smith a three-year pact that continues through the 2016-17 academic year. Smith, who earns an annual salary of $144,689.73, said he did not receive a raise with his contract extension.
Board President Dr. Raymond Jones said the panel is in total agreement that Smith has performed well, especially in the area of financial management, which Jones rates as Smith’s “strong point.”
“We’ve been very pleased and happy with Dr. Smith,” Jones said. “We appreciate him always keeping the board informed of developments. He has impressed us with his honesty and integrity.”
In other business, the board gave a unanimous nod in approving the final audit for the 2012-13 school term as formulated by the Cobb and Suskie LTD certified public accounting firm of Little Rock in conjunction with a state legislative audit. The legislative joint auditing committee filed the referenced report on Jan. 30.
The audit indicates that as of June 20, 2013, the district’s total liabilities and fund balances were $3,066,075 in its general fund, $266,831 in its special revenue fund, $1,153,314 in other governmental funds and $4,486,220 in total governmental funds.
The audit summary indicated no findings of deficiency.
The board voted unanimously to renew its one-year legal and employment practices liability coverage with BancorpSouth Insurance Services Inc. at an annual premium cost of $7,672. The new coverage will be effective until Feb. 1, 2015.
BancorpSouth has been endorsed by the Arkansas School Board Association.
