A Watson Chapel Junior High School student was expelled for the remainder of the 2013-14 academic year in a Monday night Watson Chapel School Board decision.
The girl had violated the district’s conduct code, Superintendent Danny Hazelwood said. The superintendent said the girl struck a school employee. She was cited for engaging in violent behavior, fighting and insubordination. Hazelwood had recommended her expulsion.
In other business, the board met in executive session to consider an extension of Hazelwood’s contract, but no decision was reached and the panel tabled the matter for the time being.
Hazelwood said he had accepted a recent letter of resignation from special education teacher Velma Thorns. A financial report was presented and showed an ending balance of $5,878,580.73 as of Dec. 31.
The board’s next regular meeting is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 10, in the district’s headquarters.
