UAPB reaches out to less fortunate

Caring for and reaching out to others is a tradition at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff.

An annual Thanksgiving assembly was conducted in the UAPB Student Union on Thursday. The event was hosted by UAPB’s Pan Hellenic Council and Office of Student Involvement and Leadership.

The effort resulted in the collection of “baskets, crates and bins” of food items that will distributed for the upcoming Thanksgiving observance to less-fortunate residents as recommended by the Pine Bluff School District, Arkansas Department of Health and Human Services, Dollarway School District, Jefferson County Drug Court, Holman Community Development and Community Center, and Pan Hellenic members Kappa Alpha Psi, Phi Beta Sigma and Omega Psi Phi fraternities and the Alpha Kappa Alpha, Delta Sigma Theta, Zeta Phi Beta and Sigma Gamma Rho sororities.

UAPB spokeswoman Tisha Arnold said that 86 containers of food items were collected from 56 organizations and units representing the Pan Hellenic Council, student organizations, academic and campus departments and other interests, including the Health, Physical Education and Recreation Department, Physical Plant, Student Government Association, Keepers of the Spirit, and Career Services.
