The K-3 Jefferson County Spelling Bee was held Tuesday at the Arkansas River Education Service Cooperative.
Simone Taylor of 34th Avenue Elementary School won first place among the kindergartners, Sinez Herring of W.T. Cheney Elementary School won first place among the first-graders, Veriah Hightower of W.T. Cheney Elementary School won first place among the second-graders and Jude Kearney of 34th Avenue Elementary School won first place among the third-graders.
The fourth through eighth grades will compete at 6 p.m. Thursday at the Co-Op, 912 W. Sixth Ave. The winners of that competition will go on to represent the county at the statewide spelling bee. Spectators are welcome.
Other participants in the K-3 spelling bee were: Kindergartners Andrew Lea of Ridgway Christian School and Lauryn Davis of Edgewood Elementary; first-graders Braxton Cowart of Edgewood and Monte Fells of Ridgway; second-graders Aime Lohono of Ridgway, Alala Bugg of Townsend Park Elementary, John Richardson of Taylor Elementary and Michael Moka of L.L. Owen Elementary; and third-graders Autumn Warren of L.L. Owen, Charis Xiong of Moody Elementary, Kendall Sanchez of Ridgway and Kevion Reeves of Townsend Park.
