Sisters take top honors in Knowledge Bowl


Are you smarter than Pine Bluff School District’s Knowledge Bowl winners?

The district held its academic tournament for students in grades 4 through 9 Thursday night at the Arkansas River Education Service Cooperative. The competition, with its questions focusing on black history, was fast-paced as it was obvious that the contestants had studiously prepared.

Sha’nee Hulsey of Jack Robey Junior High North won the middle school/junior high title while her sister, Kalifa Hulsey of Oak Park South, took the elementary crown. The pair’s proud parents are Rodney and Joyce Hulsey.

Other contestants in the elementary division included CamRon Johnson of Broadmoor North, Niala Moore of Broadmoor South, Jayla Jones of Oak Park North, Erin Westmoreland of Southwood North, Tatyana Griffin of Southwood South, Indonesia Jackson of Thirty-Fourth North, Bradley Clark of Thirty-Fourth South, Alyssa Darton of W.T. Cheney North and Jaylah Warfield of Cheney South.

Other competitors in the middle school and junior high round included Mayla Reed of Belair North, Malcom Foster of Belair South, Kaitlyn Peterson of Southeast North, Taiveon Harris of Southeast South, and Sadagicous Owens of Jack Robey South.

Pine Bluff School Board President Piccola Washington presented trophies and medallions to contestants.

Other competitors in individual, preliminary elementary school contests were Zsada Antoine, Tatyana Arnold, Cason Blunt, Nakilyn Burns, Leilani Byers, Kennedy Crumpton, Javion Darrough, Jhaiya Davis, Lakayla Davis, Chantlor Dorsey, Bryson Everett, Deon Foots, Kennana Gettis, Griffin Hayes, Braiylon Holmes, DeAshauntia Jackson, Lashanti Jolley, Michelle Jones, John Jordan, Dekeira Kentle, Ry’Terrion King, Khardier Locke, Adrianna Logan, Auriel Logan, Ja’Vunna McClure, Demon McElroy, Jalia McFadden, Kenniya Miller, Kebin Qualls, Kristopher Richardson, Ta’kiya Rivers, Makya Roberts, Kelsey Robinson, Ronald Russell, Sessilee Shavers, Zariah Shavers, Martavia Shelton, Calvin Smith Jr., Jalani Smith, Kayla Smith, Darion Strain, Aparecida Stewart, Tyric Stewart, Martonio Stokes, Freddiemae Thompson, Nakilyn Thorn, Ja’Kyrion Whaley, Tionna White, Jayvon Williams, Michael Woods and Miracle Woolfolk.

Other contestants in middle school and junior high preliminaries were Sha’Ligha Boykins, Juan Clay, Don’Tavian Foots, Ashley Hamilton, Kristen Hierd, Jasmine Jackson, Ashanti Lemons, Lawrence Morris, Makayla Reed, Kavianna Smith, Trenton Womack and David Woolfolk II.

The moderator was Kymara Seals, an aide to U.S. Sen. Mark Pryor.

Musical numbers were performed by the Southeast Singers trio of Cierra Ferguson, Christopher Mack Jr. and Michael Ridgell, and Valyncia Ramsey of Cheney.
